Hate that feeling of having to squint whenever your eyes are exposed to harsh light?
Now, you may not have to, thanks to the new Acuvue® Oasys Contact Lenses with Transitions™ Light Intelligent Technology™ which automatically darken when exposed to bright light.
The first-of-its-kind contact lenses—which offer the highest level of UV protection available in contact lenses, including 100% protection against UVB rays—darken in less than a minute, and fade back to clear in about 90 seconds when you're no longer in bright light. As a result, the two-week reusable lenses continuously adapt from clear to dark and back again, helping your eyes adjust to changing indoor or outdoor light conditions more effectively than your eyes could do on their own.
It's such truly innovative technology that "Time" named Acuvue Oasys with Transitions Light Intelligent Technology to its list of the 50 best inventions of 2018.
Research found that people who wore these photochromic contact lenses had faster photostress recovery, less squinting on average and improved chromatic contrast compared to those who wore the leading reusable contact lens.

Challenging light conditions can compromise visual performance in a variety of situations.
An interesting story
In March 27, 2019 – Johnson & Johnson Vision announced a collaboration with professional baseball player Bryce Harper to serve as an ACUVUE OASYS with TRANSITIONS ambassador. Bryce was wearing ACUVUE OASYS with TRANSITIONS on the field during the 2019 season and sharing his firsthand experience through a video content series.
“My eyes have to be in tip-top shape to recognize pitches at bat and to react quickly in the field, in all types of lighting conditions,” said Bryce Harper. “Since I’ve been wearing ACUVUE OASYS with TRANSITIONS to get ready for the season, I’m able to squint less and see more.”
How can 1 contact lens offer 7 dimensions for superior visual performance?
ACUVUE® OASYS with Transitions™ Light Intelligent Technology™ is the first-of-its-kind contact lens that goes beyond offering visual acuity and comfort by incorporating new light-management technology that seamlessly and dynamically adapts to multiple lighting conditions.
Who can wear ACUVUE® OASYS with Transitions™ contact lenses?
This contact lens is for anyone who is far or near sighted or anyone looking for light management benefits, including those who do not require vision correction. This product is currently not available for people with astigmatism or presbyopia.
How do the contact lenses adapt to changing light?
ACUVUE® OASYS with Transitions™ contact lenses seamlessly react when exposed to UV and High Energy Visible (HEV) light. The contact lenses darken in under a minute, and then quickly fade from dark to clear within 90 seconds when removed from direct sunlight.
Do these new contact lenses work indoors and out?
Yes. Whether indoors or outdoors, day or night, these contact lenses dynamically adapt to various lighting conditions and quickly change from dark to clear and back again. They also change quickly when going from outdoors to indoors, where you need it most.
Can the contact lens filter blue light?
Yes. ACUVUE® OASYS with Transitions™ actively filters bright light by blocking up to 15% of blue light indoors and up to 55% outdoors, where you need it most.
Can I wear the contact lenses while driving at night?
Yes. The contact lenses reduce the halos (by up to 18%, on average) and starbursts (by up to 28%) that you encounter while driving at night — including those made by harsh HEV lights. They even work behind a windshield.
How does it look on my eye? Will they get dark?
The contact lens becomes darker when activated by UV and/or HEV light, but are designed to minimize outward change to your eye’s natural appearance. The level of activation is always changing in response to the light and quickly fades back to clear in all light conditions — even when you’re inside or not in direct sunlight.
Are ACUVUE® OASYS with Transitions™ contact lenses a replacement for sunglasses?
No. They’re not a substitute for protective UV-absorbing eyewear, such as UV-absorbing goggles or sunglasses, because they do not completely cover the eye and surrounding area. However, they can be used with sunglasses.
